The Cape Colony – as shown by Arbuckle Brothers Coffee Company of New York. From the the mid-1880’s, the company began to include advertising cards, commonly referred to as “trade cards” in packages of their coffee. This was a common device used by many companies of the time to tout the virtues of their products.
I presume this map of the Cape was from the 1880’s, since it shows the Kimberley diamond mines in the early days of their development. There is also a nice map of Cape Town, complete with sailing ships. But the palm oil! I have no idea where they got that from!
